Welcome to GoKidsCamp

Philosophy

The Kidscamp environment we have created and fostered feels a lot like the ‘old neighborhood’, with Kidscamp sports, games and socializing going on almost non-stop
These things, in combination with structured Kidscamp sports and instruction, create the simultaneously relaxed, crazy, fun and educational feel of our Kidscamp program. This is a wonderful place for children to play, get tons of exercise, and develop socially, physically, and athletically.

We try to get kids of very similar age groups together in our weekly kidscamp with a student - teacher ratio of 5:1 which allows us to properly instruct our campers over the course of the week.

Competition

Parents often ask how competitive the Kidscamp is. Much of what we do is competitive. Much is not. Kidscamp Sports, by their nature, are competitive. We believe that competition can provide the structure for valuable learning experiences.

When we play a sport or game we encourage the campers to try their hardest. There is a LOT of winning and losing that goes on at Kidscamp, everyday. But records are not kept, results are quickly forgotten, and the campers remember only the fun of the Kidscamp games and the encouragement they received from their teammates and Kidscamp counselors. Neither do our Kidscamp participants in any competition have to perform extra push-ups or anything similar for not winning nor do we hand out awards for "most improved" or the like at the end of the week.
Our Kidscamp participants come from very different backrounds and we encourage them to compare only their own improvement over the course of the week and especially have a lot of fun!

Sportsmanship

Our Kidscamp offers a great opportunity for fun, exercise, and camaraderie. But perhaps the most important thing we have to offer your children is the opportunity to improve their sportsmanship skills in our Kidscamps, to learn that playing hard, working toward a goal, being part of a team are far more important than winning.
Sportsmanship is a term often tossed around without much thought given to what it really means. Here are the attitudes and behaviors we believe define a true sportsperson:

Enjoy playing the game
Compete hard and fairly
Keep a good attitude
Don’t give up
Try your best
Commiserate with, instead of blaming, teammates
Appreciate opponent’s effort
Be a good winner and a good loser
Be honest
Have integrity
Show common courtesy
Have good manners
Have and show respect for:
the referee, your opponent, yourself, your Kidscamp teammates, your Kidscamp counselor & JC, the equipment, the facility.

Our Kidscamp directors, counselors and Kidscamp junior counselors all spend a great deal of time during and between activities teaching and emphasizing these traits.

Play vs. Instruction

Our San Francisco Kids Camps program is primarily recreational.    We provide a broad exposure to sports.  The amount and depth of instruction in any one sport is limited.

We believe the best way for children to learn basic sports skills and become physically fit is simply by playing rather than sitting and listening to lecture, watching demonstration, or doing repetitive drills.  Give children lots opportunities to run and jump, to hit, bounce, throw, catch and participate in team play and they will become proficient at a number of sports without being drilled or lectured.  We excel at providing lots of creative play opportunities in our San Francisco Kids Camps (games, relays, races, contests, and skill activities). We appeal to a child's sense of fantasy. "World Records" are constantly broken, "World Championships" are won a number of times each day. Our campers become physically fitter and learn a lot but they don't even realize it's happening because they are having so much fun.
Kids learn extremely well by imitating the Pros. We try to demonstrate a lot rather than talk a lot.
