Nothing can be finer than to pitch your tent at a full service campground, complete with recreation areas and amenities like full showers and pools. I remember one in particular that had separated men and women’s full open air showers, which were just amazing — like waterfalls, where you could go clean up and feel like you’d been swimming in a lagoon. That particular camping holiday also had massage therapists on duty, and of course, I had to get a massage.

By the time I got back to my tent I really didn’t care that I was sleeping on a tiny cot in my nylon tent on an air mattress, I was already sailing in bliss. A small store near the campsite held a variety of tasty edibles. Dinner that night was simple, a baguette, some cheese, grapes, and some wine. A truly fine Eurocamp family holidays experience on a budget, but with perks.
